Let's not be pedantic about the location. It is in Cheshire but the effect of having four river crossing, all paying tolls, will have an economic effect upon Merseyside.
Additionally I recognise that the Halton Curve rail access is a good thing but any operator has to build market awareness in the face of existing rail competition from North Wales to Manchester. If the Halton Curve brings direct access to , say, Llandudno and Holyhead then that will be great. Access to Chester only will still require a change of train. Like the tolls it is another inhibition to access for Merseyside, Liverpool city centre and the airport.

MPs won't deal with something that isn't in their area. Don't believe me then ask him/her, you won't get further than the first hurdle.
Also isn't the terminus for the Halton Curve Chester with trains running from there to Lime Street? If so I don't know why you would change trains.

Maybe I didn't make myself absolutely clear. Trains to North Wales via the Halton Curve should go into North Wales - Llandudno and Holyhead is my suggestion - and not terminate at Chester. If they do, then that is another constraint on developing connectivity between Liverpool and the Principality. North Wales is keen to link with the Northern Powerhouse and constraints on travel - either by rail restrictions or bridge tolls - will only concentrate the Northern Powerhouse influence in Leeds and Manchester. If we are to have a Northern Powerhouse then it should be from port to port - Liverpool to Hull.

The only winners here in having the tolls are Manchester Airport plc and the Mersey Bridge company. The loosers the travelling public wishing to use Liverpool John Lennon Airport and those who work in industries in and around Widnes and Halewood area, and as for the tolls are needed to pay for the maintenance and debts we all know on Merseyside too well how that works look at the two Mersey Tunnels !

Blockade the tunnels and bridges, total rip off of northern drivers who they see as a soft touch. United kingdom should mean fairness for everywhere, nothing united about it,as ametyst has stated Scotland has different rules,as do the south.

Different government in contol there. You also have free prescriptions and no tuition fees in Scotland. And yet we are all still the United kingdom.. I would be happy if Scotland extended its border South to say Watford? I note the new uk aircraft carrier, which would last about 5 minutes in a real conflict, isn't funded by tolls.

Yeah, tolls are a rip off when road tax is paid on top. Here in France we do not have road tax, so we have to pay to use most autoroutes, bridges and tunnels. This does not apply in Brittany because of some Napoleonic law forbidding it, (How he ever thought so far ahead is a mystery to me, but there it is). I cannot help thinking with hindsight, the real problem with the Second Mersey Crossing is it's very title. If it had been called the Greater Manchester Peripheral Road Link, or the Manchester Airport Western Expressway, or the Northern Power House River Crossing, funding might have come from Central government.

I paid the £5 registration fee and £30 up front. I have received my windscreen bar code sticker but the Merseyflow website does not show me any credit. I have been told your credit will show on website on the opening of the bridge

Following the earlier debate about being unaware it was a toll bridge and being caught out, I noticed that signs have been erected on the new Widnes slip road adjacent to the new Ditton flyover. They have gone up in the last twenty four hours. I took some photos returning from the Airport. Personally I think they make things quite clear, unlike the Dartford Bridge which was very vague.
