Statement from the Friends of Liverpool Airport re the Corona Virus (Covid19)
Urgent Notice
As you will know, Coronavirus is having a significant effect on all of society but we are aware of the severe impact on the Airline industry. At LJLA easyjet, Wizzair and Ryanair are all affected with reductions in services and routes. This is having a real negative effect on LJLA as well as other airports.
Liverpool Airport is very quiet and measures are in place to try to restrict the spread of the illness amongst passengers, staff and visitors. The critical areas of Air Traffic Control and the Fire & Rescue Service must be protected as far as possible. This has resulted in our planned visit to the Control Tower being postponed until things improve. In addition the Cavern Suite will not be available for meetings of more than a few people.
For this reason, we have agreed with the airport to suspend all Airport Tours and FOLA meetings for the near future. This decision includes:
• No Tours until late May. • No FOLA meetings until June Earliest • No Committee meetings until June Earliest. • Annual AGM meeting to be held in September
Andrew Healey from Border Force, Liverpool Airport CEO John Irving, and Bob O`Brien were due to visit us in April and May. These talks will now take place when things return to normal.
We will keep you informed of further developments.
Steve Pearse Tony Reid Chairman Secretary

Would LJLA have capacity to store aircraft for airlines who are cancelling the vast majority of their flights? (BA, Virgin, TUI etc)

Would LJLA have capacity to store aircraft for airlines who are cancelling the vast majority of their flights? (BA, Virgin, TUI etc) Kev Doncaster Robin Hood has already started storing airlines - four Wizz Air UK A321s G-WUKE, WUKH, WUKI, WUKJ and a Virgin Atlantic A330 G-VWND to date, but bear
in mind it is a former RAF base and will have remote dispersal ramps. As for Liverpool the only areas I can think of would be the old taxiway down by Speke Hall
or stand 14.

I doubt there will be much room for anyone else once Easyjet and Ryanair start bringing non-based aircraft in to be parked.

I can’t say for certain but I would have thought if space is at a premium at all airports to park aircraft then the 2 based airlines here would get priority over, say BA.

When you look up and see nothing but stars, no flashing lights in the night sky from aircraft bringing business people and holidaymakers home, then.. as a human I feel vulnerable... The world CAN be stopped, not by guns and bombs, but by something we cannot see...

Totally agree with baldyman. For most of us who have had long and happy lives in this wonderful stable country, in the space of a few weeks it has changed so unbelievably that it is hard to believe. I hope we all stay safe and as was said it is how we all act and help everyone get through this that defines us as supposedly the most intelligent and superior species on the planet. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the world as a whole can look and realise that an invisible organism can kill more in a short time than all these pointless political and more recently religious wars have. Could this be a turning point in the history of mankind. Stay safe everybody , we will get through this , I do truly hope mankind learns from this and learns to live in peace together. (Apologies if members find this a personal rant)

I agree with bulldog and in fact I thought this ever since that SARS outbreak a few years ago, and the episode in Salisbury. Walls can keep out people but not the unseen germ. Now, and at the time of SARS, I think of a drama on TV, perhaps about 25 years ago, I cannot even remember the title, but it ran for many episodes. The premise was that a virus infected the world and only about 10% survived. Survivors then struggled against the realisation of no family, no power, nu fuel, no water, presence of rats and even worse, gangs who preyed on those that had manged to keep a garden and grow a few things.. or kill for a can of corned beef. You get the idea. far fetched ?.. perhaps but ….
So yes, in the future perhaps more spent of research such as Porton Down (For defence and treatment) and less on walls.
