Be careful.what you wish for. In my opinion Lufty have done well and nead at least another season to develope their offering to a point where added connectivity via AMS.can be not to detrimental to the Frankfurt hub.

Last time I went to Orlando direct with Norwegian from Gatwick. it took over two hours in the Q for immigration and then nearly another hour for bags. The time previously I went from Southampton via EI/Flybe code share and cleared at Dublin. It was perfect. Just perfect. Summer 2022 my daughter and boys flew home to MCO from Paris via Dublin. Once again truly perfect.

In 1989 flew on an Air Europe B757-200 to Orlando via Bangor, Maine where we refuelled. Whilst this was happening the passengers disembarked and cleared immigration and customs before climbing back on board to continue on. All done whilst the aircraft was being serviced. At Orlando walked straight through the airport to the car hire buses. Had a similar experience flying to Detroit in 1981. Flew by CP Air from Manchester in a Douglas DC8 to Toronto. At Immigration in Canada as soon as I told them I was connecting onto a US flight, they checked my tickets and gave me a form which they said just wave it at any of the remaining checks. Walked straight through everything. Checked in, cleared customs in the same hall and cleared immigration in a couple of minutes (the officer asked how long I was staying, I told min 3 weeks and he put 6 months in my passport) again minutes. However 6 months earlier I had flown BA direct to Detroit. Took over an hour and a half to get through immigration and that was to get just about 60 passengers through off a B747-200 ( flew to Washington first) Everyone on the fight was interviewed and if you were not white you were taken to private rooms.
In my experience then clearing customs and immigration outside of the US in the past was certainly a lot quicker and less hassle. After saying that in January this year the family few BA from Heathrow (A350) to Las Vagas. We got through all the checks in 5 minutes and had a discussion with the officer about him trying to tell us a joke (not brilliant) but he explained it as part of his checks on us to see our reaction? Just to add try to give JFK a miss, awful!

I can’t see emerald starting tbh , won’t compete with Ryanair. If it was confirmed why was it not announced with the many routes yesterday. Just seems very unlikely and can’t see it happening

If they can compete with FR at MAN then they should be able to compete with them at LPL. In a similar vein, KLM competes with EZY at MAN and should be able to do the same at LPL.

Pre Covid, MAN handled 1.0m passengers on the Dublin route and LPL 380k. Whether the difference is down to demand, frequency or both the airlines will know.

British Airways said there was no market for Liverpool to Belfast services beyond the twice daily 29-seater Jetstream flights they operated. Now, look at the market. The busiest UK domestic route outside of London and a bigger share of the North West market than Manchester.

The busiest UK domestic route outside of London and a bigger share of the North West market than Manchester. I know I’m going to get absolutely blasted for pointing this out but, I don’t think the last bit is true these days. Dec 22 (latest full month analysis on CAA website that I can find). LPL-BHD had 7601 pax, LPL-BFS 25087 pax MAN-BHD had 12662 pax, MAN-BFS 27871 pax. Seems to be broadly similar across 2022, where MAN has the overall bigger number for Belfast as a whole. Like I say, I know this post is probably going to be deeply unpopular but only fair to point out both sides for a rounded debate.

Last operated between October 2015 and 5th January 2017. If my memory is correct the restart was by Aer Lingus mainline then transferred to Stobart with 2/3 daily rotations.

A few statistics for the Belfast route in 2022:
LJLA: BHD 42149, BFS 412179, Total 454328 MAN: BHD 110956, BFS 363590, Total 474546

And noting Hangar4’s original concerns, the LJLA Belfast figures were obtained with just one operator (EZY) whereas the MAN figures were spread across four (EZY,FR,Emerald and Flybe2).
