Sadly, if you carefully read the text of this Granada News item it shows how shoddy their reporting can be. Their report actually reads: "More than 89,000 used the terminal between January & April." They are clearly unable to properly read the Airport's own press statement that states: "89,000 more people used the terminal between January & April." To the outside world Granada's piece implies that less than 90,000 pax passed through in 4 months! Sloppy journalism to say the least.

Unable to view the Granada Reports piece because it is only available in Europe. Would have been nice to see it to get a sense of how the new facilities look. Anyone care to give their impressions from passing through the airport? Also, what is the timeline for the arrivals to be revamped? Thanks.

We cannot see the report here on France either. Its normal for these I-players to deny acess from overseas for reasons of copyright, but it is rare to have news programmes blocked in this way.

As hinted at by Beemer in Friday's EGGP movements section, work should start today on replacing the approach lighting to runway 27. The NOTAM says the work will take place mainly at night and between aircraft movements, and will not affect the current approach lights (a relief given September often brings fog!). It should be complete by the end of November if not sooner.
Hopefully, once this work is completed we might finally get CAT III operational!!!

Wonder why it was not started when the daylight hours were longer?

As the work is stated to be at night between aircraft movements, this presumably means 10pm or later to 6am. At those times it is going to be dark, or at best dawn summer or autumn. Providing the great majority is completed before the clock change end of October, can't see it makes too much difference.
Agreed though September can see morning fog - but then so (some years) can dawn in July or August in calm, high pressure conditions. Any money on a digger slicing through a vital lighting cable just as a diversion session is imminent and cutting off the whole T-bar approach lighting? We'll wait and see! By the way, is it just the 27 end that needs revised lighting, or the 09 end as well?
Hope that Cat.III Autoland ILS can be operational before the real winter weather strikes though.

Re: 27 approach light replacement. It may surprise many of you, but it is quite logical really, that to carry out a Cat111 approach, you don't need approach lights at all. Runway lights yes. If you make an approach in Cat111b conditions, the minimum acceptable at present, with a zero cloudbase and 75m RVR, the aircraft is carrying out the landing and rollout on its own. The pilot only comes into play when the aircraft is down to taxying speed. I would suspect the lights are just being replaced because they are time expired, they weren't replaced at the same time as the runway lights. With regard the Cat111 situation, I don't know of any airport that installed new signage etc. for Cat 111 ops. so far in advance of it becoming operational. I suspect the airport is having trouble getting approval for some reason. East Midlands introduced their Cat111 ops. even before the holding points etc. where completed. As with Liverpools Cat11 they used leader cover. I hope this puts a new perspective on the lighting situation and stand to be corrected if I am wrong.

Dalten1 - thanks for that. Whilst you are correct that techically CATIII ops don't 'need' approach lighting, the CAA licensing requirements (CAP 168) state that for CATII and III ops instrument runways must have high intensity coded centreline and crossbar approach lighting and supplementary approach lighting.
Whilst we do have both at the moment I can only presume that for some reason they don't meet the current requirements, or as you suggest are just time expired. Perhaps someone on th forum might be able to enlighten us!
