Others may wish to fill on the past few weeks of news and information relating to the proposed barrier closure of Dungeon Lane between the 27 threshold lights and the GA entrance.
This week noted that a new stronger wooden fence is being errected along Dungeon Lane between the vandalised single plank fence and the somewhat older airport fence and hedge, parallel to Dungeon Lane on the Airport side. Don't quite know how this ties in the latest plans from the Airport regarding closure of the road to public traffic.

A couple of photos of the new roadside fencing. Somewhat odd, as this section should become within the airport's security fencing perimeter shortly and the road torn up, according to the plans released by the Airport that have been published by FoLA in '09/27' No. 122 Autumn 2012 issue. From the GA road end, the fire 'crash' gate entrance is to the right of the photographers' position. Looking toward the threshold of 27 with the 'close-boarded wooden fence' completed. Looking the other way down Dungeon Lane, from the 27 mound area. Bailey's Lane is off the right from the photographer's position. Here the new fencing has yet to be completed. The older single bar fence is currently still in place at this end.

Curious indeed. Having said that, even assuming planning is granted for the RESA works the airport will need to secure a separate order to close Dungeon Lane so it could be sometime before they are in a position to do the work. All the while the airport is under pressure to improve the boundary fencing at the eastern end of the airfield so it may just be short term fix?

Having had the chance to look again at the plans submitted with the planning application the wooden fence is shown as being retained - I'm not entirely sure why apart from providing a secondary line of security?

The new "fence" is simply another roadside barrier...a series of upright posts surmounted by a single horizontal bar about one metre above the ground. This cannot possibly be anything to do with airport security because even I can duck underneath it with my dodgy back! The only purpose this structure can serve is to prevent vehicles being parked on the verge beneath the approach. Idiots will continue to park on the road.

:PI'd like to see you duck under the new fence shown in the first of Brian's pictures lol Once the work is done the road won't be there any more to park on and will be blocked by a 2.8m high barbed-wire-topped fence.

Sorry Andy...I don't receive pictures in my profile setting as I'm on "pay-as-you-go" internet. The fencing was as I described it a couple of days ago. It must have changed since I looked.

An update photo from Saturday morning shows that they appear to have finished putting in the posts at the traffic light pole, and have made progress nailing on the upright boards.

Here is the latest news also photo's about the fencing along Dungeon Lane. The photo's were taken from the top of the mound so it doesn't look to bad but from road level the fence is about 8ft high will have mesh and either barbwire or razor wire on the top section. The new fence will start from the Warning Light's by the mound and go down to the field on the corner, looking more like Manchester AVP every day. Fence start support 1 support 2 Not a nice sight but thank's for looking

It does look, just at Manchester, that the wire strands will be across the bottom of a shot from the 27 mound when taking a picture of an aircraft taxiing onto the 27 threshold. As 'Blueaircraft79' states, the wire fencing will run from the traffic light pole to the south east airfield corner, where it will meet fencing of a similar specification.

Looking ta the list of people attending the meeting I was amazed to discover Wirral had a representative from the "Older Peoples Parliament" What the heck is it ? now I have Googled it I now wonder why an Old Parliament Member is concerned about a fence at Liverpool Airport.

Page 10 of planned changes,
Proposed Changes (1) • Closure of Dungeon Lane between Viscount Drive and Baileys Lane • BS1722: Part 10 Fencing to perimeter of field east of Dungeon Lane (some sections would be close boarded timber) • Removal of ‘spotters mound’ at junction of Dungeon/Baileys Lane • Provision of an alternative area for aircraft enthusiasts • Baileys Lane to be designated Authorised Vehicles Only west of properties - police can impose spot fines It will be interesting where the "alternative area" is located.

Does anyone know what effect (if any) these changes will have on the Mersey Way footpath which is currently signposted along Oglet Lane at its junction with Dungeon Lane? Legislation used to state that in the event of any footpath being closed,an alternative route had to be provided. Is this still the case, and if so where will the new footpath be located?
